Origin of the F.U-C.K Word

Ok, I was bored. Bored from being sick and staying at home eating only vegetables, fruits and drinking plain water. Thanks to my
Lymph Node problem.

So as I was blog hopping, I came across a blog that blog about the origin of F.U-C.K that is mentioned as below.

Variant #1:
Email example contributed by T. McInnis, 22 March 2001:
In ancient England a person could not have sex unless you had consent of the King (unless you were in the Royal Family). When anyone wanted to have a baby, they got consent of the King, the King gave them a placard that they hung on their door while they were having sex. The placard had F.*.*.*. (Fornication Under Consent of the King) on it. Now you know where that came from.

Thus, I went searching for the accuracy of it. Then, I came across this piece of information.

Variant #2:
From a Usenet posting, 1 November 1990:

The word fuck comes from colonial times, when someone would be punished for 'prostitution' It was an acronym for the words

'For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge'

FUCK was written on the stocks that held these criminals because For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge was too long to go on the stocks.

Variant #3:
From a Usenet posting, 12 October 1990:

I always heard that "F.U.C.K." originated in the 1800's in London, when they used to charge prostitutes "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge". So officer got sick and tired of writing those, um, lessee, 26 characters, not including spaces, so it got abbreviated FUCK and stuck.

Are all the above variants true? Apparently NOT!  Check the link from here.

Anyway, it was fun finding out.

Were you entertained? Have you read this before?
Hey if it is correct, update me ok?

A swollen lymph node.... dangerous?

Three days ago, I noticed a small stone-like around my right jaw line. I was shocked and tried to feel that 'thing', massaging and pressing it. There is a slight pain when I did that and still do. I was stress out as the thought of tumour and cancer possibilities ran through my mind madly.

By the end 48 hours, I went to see doctor.

He told me I could be having some infection, either throat or something. However, there was none. He pressed everywhere on my neck and head just to make sure whether are there more in there. He told me that this is an infection in the lymph node, since it is swollen right now. Do not press or massage it. He gave me a week supply of pills to pop (antibiotics) and asked me to wait for 2 weeks before coming back to check. I was so worry.

I came back and search about this lymph node thingy online. Some photos and information freaks me out. Because if the symptoms persists longer or the swell grow to more than an inch, or it is reddish, I would probably need to have a small surgery to take it off!! THere would be scars!! This is scary!

The bad news was last night, I felt there is another one right beside it. And, I was having a slight fever and coming down with some flu or etc. Well, the good news is that this shows a sign of viral and not something that will link me to cancer.

Here is some information I have found on the net.

What are Lymph Nodes?

Lymph nodes are small, bean-sized organs of the immune system, distributed widely throughout the body. Lymph fluid, the fluid that collects foreign substances throughout the body, is filtered through the lymph nodes where the immune system can rid those foreign substances from the body.

What Causes Lymphadenopathy?

As lymphatic fluid passes through the lymph nodes, immune system cells and fluid remain, causing the lymph nodes to swell, often times to many times their size. There are several reasons that cause this swelling.
  • A Local Infection
Often times, the site of lymph node swelling can pinpoint the location of the infection that is causing it. For instance, a throat infection may cause lymph node swelling in the neck. Other infections, such as viral illnesses can cause generalized swelling of lymph nodes all over the body, such as the case in HIV infections.
  • A Lymph Node Infection
Sometimes the lymph nodes can themselves become inflamed and infected. This type of infection is called
lymphadenitis and can cause a painful swelling of the lymph nodes.

  • Lymphoma
Cancer can invade the lymphatic system and immune system and cause a condition known as
lymphoma which can cause a non-tender swelling of the lymph nodes. There are two types of lymphoma, Hodgkin’s and Non-Hodgkin’s.

What are the Symptoms of Lymphadenopathy?

Obviously swollen lymph nodes is one symptoms of lymphadenopathy. There are other symptoms as well.
  • swollen, enlarged lumps in the neck, back of the head, or other locations of lymph nodes

  • tenderness of the nodes, although the nodes may not be painful at all

  • warmth or redness of the skin over the lymph nodes

  • fever

  • history of infection or illness

Is There a Treatment for Lymphadenopathy?

Once swollen lymph nodes are identified, is there a treatment for the condition? First, the cause of the swelling has to be identified. Is there a viral illness? Is there an infection of the lymph nodes themselves? Does the patient have lymphoma? Once the cause is determined, treatment of the cause will usually result in a resolution of the lymphadenopathy. These can include:
  • antibiotics to treat any bacterial infections

  • antivirals to treat any viral illness present such as HIV

  • a lymph node biopsy made be needed to identify cancer. If cancer is diagnosed, chemotherapy will be used to treat the cancer and reduce the lymph node swelling.

  • depending on the cause, sometimes the lymphadenopathy is monitored without treatment and eventually resolves on it’s own.
If you have found what you think may be swollen lymph nodes under your arms or groins or in your chest, abdomen, or neck, notify your doctor immediately so the cause can be determined and treated.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

  •  Do not poke or squeeze the swollen lymph nodes. This could keep them from returning to normal.
  • You may take acetaminophen for pain and fever, but do NOT take aspirin or give it to children who have an infection.
  • Always take your medicine as directed. If you feel it is not helping, call your doctor, but do not stop taking it on your own.
  • If you are taking antibiotics, finish the entire prescription even if you feel well. Failure to complete the treatment may leave enough bacteria alive to cause another infection.
  • Putting heat on the swollen nodes may help reduce pain. Use an electric heating pad (set on low) or warm, wet towels.
  • If you have a sore throat, gargling with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of water) or with double-strength tea may provide some relief.
  • If you have a fever, rest until your temperature returns to normal (98.6 degrees F or 37 degrees C). You may resume normal activity slowly after your fever is gone. Be sure to rest whenever you feel tired.
  • You may not have much appetite while you are ill, but try to eat as much healthy food as possible. Drink at least 8 soda-can sized glasses of liquids each day, especially while you have a fever.

There are a lot of other photos I've found that seriously look gruesome. Swelling lymph node can be quite serious if not treated.

I am better from last night's fever and hope that it wouldn't occur again, and everything will be fine soon.

Does anyone has this experience before? Any advise? Any medical center that you would recommend to have a second opinion if my symptoms persist?

Why do you choose to work abroad?

Taken from www.transitionsabroad.com

With the increase of globalisation have resulted in many opportunities to travel and work overseas and I believe there are people who choose to seek work in another country. From my previous post, I can see many have the same opinion in this matter. But why do you choose to work abroad?

The reasons for working abroad are endless, depending on individual’s purpose, either from the desire to travel, explore new cultures, learn new ways of living, making new friends, improving language skills or widening professional experience, in fact some may want to have residential excess overseas.

Why do I choose to work abroad?

Since young, I am very attracted with the culture from overseas and working abroad can provide an opportunity for a total engagement in a foreign culture and I find that merely travelling will not able to get you to experience the total culture in the place. Exposure to different culture, different type of weather and different ways of living in overseas gives a tint of excitement in life to look forward too. In fact, I find working abroad may enhance the employability perhaps as in a way it will be able to develop our certain strengths and skills such as communication skills, flexibility or determination (just like my previous Manager). Perhaps with this working experience abroad can make the resume more attractive to employers (of course within the same working line)?

I have heard of some other reasons for working abroad such as possibility of better living conditions or earning potential than own country, or purposely relocate for a partner / emigrating for a better lifestyle and perhaps a better job opportunity out there.

I don’t think that the reasons such as being tired of our own culture, our own work, or our own people are good enough of a reason to work abroad, right?

So tell me, what is the reason you decide to work abroad?

Does job satisfaction define your attitude at work?

I was not quite well when I took this photo.
Please excuse the sick face.
Can someone teach me how to photoshop???

A boring topic but I just want to find out from you....

Research has found that job satisfaction is among the important attitudes that influence human behaviour in the work place. If you are not satisfied with your job, then absenteeism will occur without any explanation. If you are satisfied, you will attend to work regularly.

Do you hate your job? Love it? Dislike the colleagues? Hate the boss?

Survey shows almost half of all workers take unscheduled absences that probably are not due to illness. I bet most of you have tried to take a sick day off just to do something or relax, right?

Tell me…what are the reasons you have used for single-day absenteeism at work?

Sick? Like what? Headache? Flu? Migraine?

Absence? Like what? Relatives passed away? Dad’s sick?

hahaha ... it will be very interesting to know your answers ^_^

What is the most catastrophically experience that you’ve encountered, that changed your life as it is now?

A photo taken during my trip to Phuket (20 people) on Aug 08.
Do you want to see those photos? I might think of blogging about the trip though and shares the photos...

very lengthy and boring post ahead...*beware*....

I believe in some point of our life that we hit an experience (probably a rock bottom one) that will make us improve and learned a lot, building us up as who we are right now. It will be a point of life that probably make us suffer so much that we need to learn to grow up hastily. At times it could be that you’ll lost something meaningful to you in life or perhaps something as plain as just a big heart ache caused by treachery. Or maybe it could be a happy experience that changes your life too!

You walked down paths that you’ve chose and you learned from each of it. Like the Buddhism saying goes, if there is a ‘YAN’, act? And then there will be ‘KOR’, consequences.

In love, we chose to be with someone. Perhaps he / she might not be the one that you were seeking for, or perhaps he / she was someone that brings out the worst in you. Or, he / she couldn’t help but to compare you to others so much that you’ve probably hated yourself for not being able to keep up with him / her. Or maybe, he / she betray you in certain ways that you couldn’t accept it. Nevertheless, you did your best. That is life. You did your best out of love. If one says, love is blind, perhaps that can be so generally said so. However, to me that shows how you will love a person unconditionally. No expectation, but plain love.

At work, you chose the path of career. Maybe it was something that you didn’t want at first, or maybe it is something that you are not interested at all now. However, you did your best to climb the ladder. Perhaps you were framed once in life at work. Perhaps you failed once in life at work, couldn’t achieve something that was given to you. Perhaps you were not at the par of their expectation. However, you did your best. If one says you are just plain stupid, then I would say you are just not quite interested in what you are doing. So find something that makes you happy to do it.

In friends, we chose the group of friends to be with. Friends come and go. You may be best friend with one for years but became a hi-bye friend the next. You may have friends that will turn their back on you, or friends that will support you no matter what. Anyway, I bet you did your best to maintain your friendship with them. Just be happy of the friends you chose and stay away from those that you are not comfortable with. That is just life.

Someone inspired me to blog about this from his last post on Love is Blind.

So tell me what is the most catastrophically experience that you’ve encountered, that changed your life as it is now?
