9 cool iPhone tips and tricks

I’ve been using my iPhone 3G for a few months now. Along the way I’ve discovered a few tricks and shortcuts that save me a fair bit of time....

1) Scroll to the top

Tapping the status bar (the bar at the top with the clock) will make scrollable content scroll to the top. For example, if you are reading any documents, emails, or sites from safari and you scrolled to the bottom of the page, you can tap on the bar where it brings you back to the top.

2) Screenshots

Simultaneously press the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons to take a screenshot of your current screen (let go quickly). You’ll hear a camera shutter sound, your screen will flash white, then the screenshot will appear in the “Saved Photos” library of the Photos app.

3) Saving images in Safari and Mail

Touching an image in Safari or Mail for a couple of seconds will present you with an action sheet which will enable you to save the image.

4) Caps lock

Double-tap the Shift key to lock it.

Note: For this to work, you need to make sure Enable Caps Lock is turned on in the Keyboard section of General setting

Along somewhat similar lines, a handy way of saving a tap when you need to type a capital letter is to touch the Shift key then slide over to the desired key.

5) Extra keys

Many keys bring up a list of other symbols or options if you tap and hold them for 1 second.
Touching and holding it pops-up additional options for quickly entering .net, .edu, and .org domains.

6) Lock / shut down / force quit / reset
If you have ever been using an app and it’s become very unresponsive or completely frozen, you can force quit it by pressing the Home button for at least six seconds.

You can also force a reset (consider as REBOOT) of your phone by pressing both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds.

7) Quickly type a period and space (a fullstop with a space after)

When you finish typing a sentence, you usually want to type a FULLSTOP and followed by a space. There’s a much quicker way: just double-tap the space bar.

(If this doesn’t seem to work, go to Settings > General > Keyboard and turn the “.” Shortcut option on.)

8) Tap the bottom corner to navigate home screens

When on your home screen, try tapping the bottom right/left corner to switch between pages instead of swiping your finger accross the screen.

9) Other short cut?

To silence a call, press the Sleep/Wake or either volume button. You can still answer the call after silencing it, until it goes to voicemail.

To iPhone users, what other tips you found out? Come share it with me, I want to learn!!
I think there are a lot more I didn't list it down....
